I-TEAM: Toledo ordinance would limit police use of Flock license plate camera data
A proposed Toledo City Council ordinance on police technology asks whether there are ways to determine when Flock license plate reading cameras are turned on and off. A proposed Toledo City Council ordinance would limit police use of Flock license plate camera data. The ordinance would also outline what Toledo police cannot do with the data. It would ban data sharing for immigration enforcement, reproductive health or gender-affirming care, and would also prohibit use of race-based tracking or personal harassment. Council members are considering whether the cameras can be turned off in certain situations or at certain times. The city auditor is working on an audit of the Flock system and is working directly with Toledo police and Flock to pull raw data himself.
