The fisherman, identified as 64-year-old John “Buddy” Martin Jr. from Joaquin, Texas, was last seen on the evening of June 8, 2024, when he left Huxley Bay, Texas, in a small aluminum boat.
Martin’s disappearance prompted a joint search effort by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries and Texas Parks & Wildlife. The search focused on the northern part of Toledo Bend Lake. Despite their efforts, no contact had been made with Martin since his departure.
On the evening of June 10, 2024, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries reported that Martin’s body, along with his boat, was found near Jolly Rogers Marina in the northeast area of Toledo Bend Lake.
Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell expressed his condolences, stating, “The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office extends its thoughts and prayers to Martin’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
The search for Martin, which spanned two days, saw collaboration between Texas and Louisiana wildlife agents, highlighting the cross-state efforts to locate the missing fisherman.
