Toledo police will have a new chief in November, with Assistant Chief Kevin Braun set to take over from current Chief Michael Troendle. Braun, who has been with the force for nearly 26 years, aims to enhance the department's professionalism and increase recruitment numbers. He also plans to expand officer wellness programs and increase technology. Braun said the department will go into 2027 with under 600 officers and hopes to increase that to 650. He supports the use of license plate reading cameras, stating they are a crucial policing tool for the department.
