Toledo Museum of Art launches initiative to donate art books to African libraries
The Ohio institution has given books to the Koyo Kouoh Library at the Gihanga Institute of Contemporary Art in Rwanda, and to the Nubuke Foundation in Ghana The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) has launched the Africa Art Library initiative to donate art books to African libraries. The initiative was inspired by discussions among leaders of African art residency spaces, foundations, and cultural institutions. The books cover topics such as Africa and African diasporic art, art history, criticism, museum education and other relevant topics. The TMA has donated around 100 books to the Koyo Kouoh Library at the Gihanga Institute of Contemporary Art in Kigali, Rwanda, and a second set to the Nubuke Foundation in Accra, Ghana. The project aims to partner with other museum libraries across the US and expand to more recipients in other African countries.
