North Toledo residents recount chaotic night of chemical leak evacuation

Families say they had little warning before evacuating Raintree Village A chemical leak in North Toledo, Ohio, caused evacuations after a chemical reaction at MC Tank Transport led to dense plumes of glycidyl methacrylate being sent into the air. Residents in the Raintree Village neighborhood are demanding better emergency notifications and financial reimbursement for their ordeal. The leak began when a chemical reacted at MCTank Transport on Progress Avenue and sent dense pluses of glycidsyl methicrylate into the atmosphere. Jennifer Stacey, who lives near the site, described the experience as "like a deep, dense fog" and described it as "horrible" and "like when you have a car leak". The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has set up a dedicated hotline for residents with lingering respiratory symptoms or eye irritation. The vented tank is now empty and preliminary data indicates no toxic levels were ever detected.
