Toledo Chemical Tank Stops Leaking as Officials Tell Returning Families to Toss Garden Produce and Wipe Play Equipment
The Toledo chemical tank has stopped leaking. What returning families should toss, clean, and watch for as 64 households remain evacuated. The ruptured tank at the MC Tank Terminal in north Toledo has stopped releasing glycidyl methacrylate, allowing hazardous materials crews to inspect it for inspection. The city cut the evacuation zone to a quarter-mile radius, leaving 64 households still displaced. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will take over the site for cleanup once officials receive a site safety plan. The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has issued return-home guidance for returning families, instructing them to throw away garden produce and remove outdoor toys, swing sets, and slides, and pet bowls. The department also advises parents to wipe down outdoor toys and play equipment within the former 3-mile zone. Glyidyl Methacrylated can irritate eyes, skin, and respiratory system and may cause skin sensitization, leading to repeated contact. The International Cancer Research Agency classifies it as probably carcinogenic to humans.
